Re: How to make a tile/grid based game?
Checkout Grime Z80. https://www.chibiakumas.com/z80/grimez80.php it used a 'tilemap' (bitmap 8x8 graphics), and is the simplest example of such that I have done. The player could shoot and collide with the background, in a similar way to what you describe. So I was browsing through the GrimeZ80.asm...

How to make a tile/grid based game?
For weeks I have been trying to make a grid-based game. (16x16 pixel sized tiles on a 16x12 grid with a character movement that checks for the type of tile in front of the player character for collision) I made some crudely written engine but ditched it because it was trash + I felt like I was doing...

Re: Old Computers/Games Consoles - Owned, Wanted and Missed
My first introduction to video games was a cheap handheld with built-in games based on modified NES clone hardware. Played the heck of it when I was 6. I currently own 3 of them, each with slightly different hardware specs/capabilities but all built on top of the same system. So I pretty much played...

Re: Tried getting a graphic to appear on the screen. Nothing appears.
I don't use VASM because I have no idea how to.
For a very long time I have been relying on simple command prompt-based compilers (a different one per platform), and the code being written in the regular notepad.
It works for all code I was using back then.

Re: hi
Fine, I guess.
I'm currently on the second half of my two week winter break from high school, and I haven't done much regarding game development.

hi
I'm KTKNM, an artist, a retro collector and a wannabe game developer. I have a unique art, character design and game design style, but I wasn't able to bring the last one to life much though. I currently own six 8-bit systems: Sega Master System, Atari 65XE, Three handhelds that use modified NES har...
