Hello!

Hi, I'm YQN and I make music for old machines, mostly the Atari ST and its YM2149. I have the project of releasing an album in floppy disk format so I came here to learn how to write assembly, because I want that album to be sexy with visualization and menu - and why not, make music disks for other platforms and other musicians! I know very little about coding in general (played with Java and C++) and I appreciate that the 68K series is targeted at beginners like me!

Also, if you want original music for your game/demo, PM me! :)

Edit: the tutorials I'm most looking forward to read/watch are those involving sound, especially music playback (.sndh, .mod, .nsf, .vgm...)

Welcome to the forum!

You've certainly got a different perspective on the programming side of things! I'd imaging most people are looking to write games, and add music to them, not start from the Music side.

I've only used ArkosTracker (1) for my music ,The YM2149 is basically the same as the AY-3-8910 that's used by the
CPC/MSX & Speccy 128 isn't it?... I believe it's also used by the Vectrex (it used a 6809 CPU, so I can't develop for it yet), oh and the NeoGeo is also backwards compatible with the AY

I covered Arkosplayer in this tutorial:

Anyway, have fun programming and good luck with your Music disk!

Thanks!

Yeah, the YM2149 and AY-3-8910 are compatible, there are some minor differences I believe, they should work the same but sound slightly different if I'm not mistaken. I love how musicians from the demoscene have used the processing power of the 68K to get the YM to sound like it wasn't meant to!
