Amstrad plus series/gx4000

Post by Gee-k » Thu Nov 28, 2019 2:57 pm

Hi Keith

Just wondering if there are any plans for future items relating to the amstrad plus/gx4000 series?

I think it would be pretty cool to be able to make some things with the improved colour pallete, hardware sprites and ROM carts.
I just recently bought a gx4000 and thought it would be pretty fun to make some games for it. It's the same as a 464plus i believe.

I'm aware you have loads of idea's and i'm not expecting anything, purely wondering if it's a thought you've had already.

cheers,
Alastair

As you say, the GX4000 is just a CPC+ with no keyboard... I've covered the basics of the plus hardware in a few of my videos...

I've covered CPC+ hardware sprites here:

Using the enhanced palette was covered in this lesson:

If you're looking to make a cartridge, your easiest solution is to make a DSK and convert it to a ROM with BuildCPR:

The cartridge is effectively a rom bank that can be paged in - it's pretty simple, but a pain to make a cartridge... I covered it the banking here (as well as how to enable and detect a CPC+)

No problem... If you've not found it, I'm sure many others haven't - so it's worth re-iterating what's out there!

There's a lot of people asking for things I've already done on youtube too... it gets quite confusing, as I'm not sure if they've not seen the existing content, or they don't consider it detailed enough
